The association is not a formally registered body, legally only an association of advocates having membership of Bar Council of India, Bar Council of Assam etc. and All Assam Lawyers Association (AALA). It does, however, have a constitution governing election, membership, conduct of members etc.
Membership is open to all those license holders who practice or intend to practice in the Mangaldai Court. Applicants are first admitted as temporary members and after scrutiny and acceptance, they become permanent.
Permanent members enjoy certain constitutional privileges and facilities including the right to stand for election in the Executive Committee, use of library books, Journals, pay-per- use computer, internet, etc. Moreover, permanent members of the association become members of Advocate Welfare Fund by virtue of their enrollment in the association.
